92 f150 5.0 help

Motor is getting fuel at idel. As long as you idel up it runs fine, but once you let off the gas it floods out. It is puffing grey/ white smoke. Has a new fuel pump, fuel presure reg, timing chain, and distributor. I have no idea what is wrong with it. PLEASE HELP ME.....

1) sounds like a stuck relay without the engine running when you first turn the key on it should pressurize the turn off
2) bad fuel injector or brain fail

Gray/white smoke would indicate you are burning coolant. Possibly a bad head gasket or cracked head. Are you losing any coolant? Smoke from excess gas would be black.

Masseyman is right, but I have seen stuck open fuel injectors on other vehicles (typically 95 Tbird) cause gray smoke. These were due to the computer not firing the fuel injector, just causing it to stay open. First, you will need to verify the fuel pressure(35-40psi), check fluid levels, verify proper ignition timing(10 degrees BTDC with spout unplugged). Cover the basics before freaking out. When did it start?

I really dont know. A buddy of mine has the truck I can buy it cheap. Im just tring to figure out what is wrong with it before I buy it. They said it used abot 50 gallon of fuel on a 70 trip. I was thinking it could be the throttle position senser, idel air control, egr valve, or a busted injector. Im pretty sure its burning gas, I dont think is coolant.

Could be anything from a bad ground wire, bad injector, pressure regulator, a faulty PCM, or anything in between. Hard to say without first double checking all the basics.

test the ect. put the end of it in a little dish with water and a thermometer. and hook an ohm meter to the terminals and post your reading and the temp of the water on here.

the engine coolant temp sensor. if the computer reads that the coolant temp is cold then it'll keep sending more fuel down into the cylinders causing it to run rich. which will cause the symptoms your having.

I don't care if the sensor is reading that it is 50 below, it will not feed enough fuel to cause it not to idle and smoke out the pipe. If the ECT completely fails, all the computer will do is cause the engine to keep running on the "choke" cycle. Remember, he is trying to figure out if the truck he can get for cheap is worth fixing. Not that the truck he has is running bad. The BASICS have to be verified first before any kind of diag happens.

Is it Smoking the time it is running or is it smoking just before it shuts off??
Grey/white smoke is usually burning Coolent..
meaning that Coolent is getting past the water jackets and into the cylinder some how
Either Really bad head gaskets or a cracked head
If its smoking the whole time or whenever it does, hold your nose near the smoke and smell it..
If it smells kinda sweet then its coolent,
If it makes your eyes water and burns your thoat then that means its running Very rich..Indicating an over abundance of fuel...
Hope this will help get a general idea of your problem
