Need Help, Truck running rough.
I have a 2002 f150 5.4 motor and yesterday when i came home it was running fine when i shut it off. This morning when i went to leave it was running like it was misfiring. I looked under the hood and there was snow covering everything on the driver side. I let it thaw out then started it again, this time it threw the check engine light on. I drove it to my local auto parts store to scan it but both place say I don''t have power to my OBII port under my dash, so i came home and something smelled hot, so i looked under the truck and the driver side cateylitc converters are both glowing red. Any suggestions? Thanks
Sounds like you may have water around the sparkplugs and they are misfiring. I would pull the sparkplug boots and check for moisture from the melted snow. Dry the plugs and wires, maybe new wires are needed? Apply dielectic grease around/in the boots before reinstalling. The reason the cats are glowing red hot is because you are pumping raw gas into the exhaust due to the missfire. Just my two cents. Good luck.
I didn't even pay attention to what year your truck was. Same applys to the COP's as you don't have plug wires obviously....
Clean the water out and make sure the plugs and COP's are VERY dry before reinstalling them. Should solve your problem. Use the grease. Good luck.

So i took the cop's out and the #6 7 8 have water standing in the plug hole, i tested the coils and they all have the same ohm reading. Is it a safe bet if i blow the water and dirt out of the plug holes and assemble it all back together that the coils will be fine? Thanks
If you have the Coil Over Plugs, and there is water in the Plug Sockets, the coils have probably shorted out. You can put it back together and see if it still mis fires, but I have found that electronics do not fix themselves when they have been shorted out.
Good luck, $30-$40 per coil. I carry a spare and a ODBII tester in my truck for just this reason.
Do not get me wrong I love my truck.
