Unhappy lossing lots of gas

Took my 01 Ford F150 truck in for oil change and reported check engine light had come on. They said light was on due to a mis-fire and recommended a tune up. Had them complete tune up and brought to me at work. When I left work a couple of hours later I had someone pull along side and tell me my truck was leaking gas big time. I immediately drove to the garage that did the tune up and still lost more than 1/4 of tank of gas it was coming out so fast (only traveled about 4 miles). Gas was pouring out from under the front of the truck hear the driver's side. They now tell me they had to replace the fuel injector to fix the problem. I think maybe they did something while doing the tune up that caused issue. How can I handle talking with the mechanic to find out what really happened and who is at fault?

they had to removed the fuel rail to install the fuel injector. this probably broke a fuel line or was reinstalled incorrectly. either ways its their fault. no way you could have done something without touching anything.

Sounds like they disconnected a fuel rail while changing the plugs and forgot to re-connect it. If you had a fuel injector go bad and dump 5 gallons of gas in 4 miles, your motor would have locked up.

So if they forgot to re-connect the fuel rail when they did the tune up and now tell me it is the fuel injector that caused so much fuel to be lost and have now replaced the fuel injector how can I present my arguement to them on that? By losing so much gas am I looking at further damage to my truck as a result of gas being lost while driving it?

Next time take it to the dealer. The may have broken an O ring or not seated the fuel rail properly. An injector probably did not fail. They are lieing there way out. The dealer is really the safest option most of the time. There are real dishonest dealerships out there though so you always need to be careful about who works on your stuff.

So is it still leaking? If not your are set. If you want to know what happened find the mechanic who installed the injectors.
Print this out and show it to him. Ask him to check off the reason

Leaking O ring. If you do not lubricate the O rings prior to reinstalling your risk tearing them. Then they leak.

Loose or missing fuel rail hold down bolts. If you do not reinstall the hold down bolts the rail will lift off the injectors from the pressure.
