Well for one, you have to know who Darren is - The kids Phenomenal in the exhaust forums. He's a good kid. -I found it hard to believe he couldn't change a belt, so I gave him a hard time.

You on the other hand don't know anyone which is very apparent. Spouting off like your better in some way won't hold much water around here. Simply because you don't know as much as you think you do. - Which has already been proven IMO.

I have 11 years as a mechanic and another 8 working on cars since I was 16. Personally I don't care who you know or who you think you know. I call them as I read them. Now seeing as you have a very large post count I would have assumed that you would know what you are talking about. That how ever is not the case.

Now as far as the gentleman with the noise problem you have a few options. You can take my advice that is sound. Or you can do the following: stick your ear to a screw driver and a pulley that is rotating at close to 4000 rpm or perform a service bulletin made for a series of vehicles but not your own. I am sure the engineers at Ford would not bother including the F150 in that because they thought a bunch of people on a forum are smart enough to figure it out.... I mean as one imposter said "sounds right to me"

Remember, just because someone says.... "oh well that makes sense to me"... does not mean either of them are right. I could buffalo a lot of things to have it "make sense" but that is easy if I am talking to someone that just doesn't know.

Good luck

11 years or whatnot - Now what's that prove ? You obviously care or wouldn't be so defensive. Now you seem threatened by my post count.

Whatever man - Don't be scared

Well I guess it proves nothing except I can see through BS when it comes around and use a level head to sort out problems.

Not threatend at all... just thought someone that has been around that long would have some common sense is all... guess I was wrong :o

I will tell you that I have been around long enough to see good people make bad decisions because someone else said it was a good idea. I could care less if someone believes me or not. You can read the advice that I give and if any of it sounds like BS then by all means call me on it. How ever, if I call you on bad advice then stand up and take it like a man.

That's right, Other people can make their own opinions. I will stand behind the advice that I give because I believe in myself. I have yet to see you stand up for the advice you gave..... You are telling me that you still think his best option is to perform a TSB for a mustang or explorer on his F150? You think that throwing parts at it until fixed is the RIGHT way to do things? Or do you agree that someone who has the courage to say that he is not mechanicly inclined should try sticking a big screw driver by fast rotating parts and put the side of his head to it?

Which one is it Mr. Jbrew? Come on now and tell me and everyone else in this forum what you believe is the best course of action and then back it up with something better than "sounds right to me"

Oh brother

Well, this is what I said -

If you open the hood, you should have a sticker there that shows you the belt routing Darren.

The Idler pulley is just above the tensioner - Not sure if you need to change that tho - What ever the TSB said I would do - It sounds right

It is really simple. Best thing to do in your case is buy one of those "Ford Service" DVD's from ebay for 9-12 bucks. Their lots better than Haynes or Chiltons - even with the simple stuff. - There more vehicle specific.

I just did this with a 98, the symptoms included noise - not the same, but similiar and the problem went away.

I just gave my opinion on what I would do. Never said it was written in stone. - Didn't you just have something to say about opinions ? I didn't thro the first stone here, but I bet I could get Shifty to drop a boulder on your head.. So post your proofs. I have now and in the past - Hence why I'm here and you are the only one with a problem.. - Go figure, then give it up.

My problem is with people that just post to try and be the hero. So you gave him instructions on:
1. Where to find a belt routing diagram..... Great advice to a guy who doesn't want to mess with his belts
2. You told him where to find the idler pulley. Again great advice ^^see above^^^
3. You told him that you don't think he should need to change the idler pulley.
4. You told him he should do what was in the TSB. Which is to change the idler pulley.

Now you say that you had a different truck with a similar problem but not the same... and you did this and the problem went away.

So for anybody that has any type of similar noise it doesn't matter what year the truck is or the engine for that matter, just perform the following TSB and it should fix it. In Jbrew's opinion any way....

Now for your information I AM NOT the one with the problem. It is Darren who originaly posted this thread who has a problem with his truck. Or did you forget that while you were posting for the sake of posting. From what I have read you have added absolutly NO VALUE to this thread. Now I am sure that you have some good expierence with a lot of different problems. So do I. The only difference is that I don't post for the sake of posting. I post because I want to help people.

If that means exposing bad advice for what it is then that is what I will do.

By the way I don't throw stones. I am too busy cutting through bullcrap.

Now if you are done wasting time you can give it up.

Darren if you want some sound solid advice PM me and I will be happy to help.

Well I didn't mean for this thread to go a little crazy here, but atleast Jbrew stopped picking on me I know hes just joking, i've read his posts before, layed it on pretty thick for me though so I must be a little special

So Alternator some of you think? Even though it runs really good now, and my battery levels remain high and fine?

I dont doubt I could remove and re-install pullys, the thing is, I have never done it before, and my truck is my only transportation, so its not something I really want to pull apart you know? I need my truck every day so I never went wrench crazy under the hood. If I get an exact answer that it is involved with the pullys I could take an attempt at it. If it could be an alternator problem, do I have to replace it soon? Or could it wait under later, as in when I can afford to buy one

Darren if you want some sound solid advice PM me and I will be happy to help.

Your twisting my words and advice to build ground to stand on. That's alright, have fun with it.

A general mechanic is good for a basic understanding. If you don't work on these trucks all the time, you lack the education. This is what I'm getting out of your posts here and in other threads - your spreading like a virus lol -

This is more of a vehicle specific forum vrs a jack of all auto's one - sort of speak. Open your mind and don't be so afraid to learn and you may benefit from it.

You sound like an old fart, stubborn and set in his ways which is an accelerated version of a little whinny brat who doesn't get his way.

BTW - I don't think Darren can PM you yet.
