Occasional Hard Start with '06 5.4L

Hey Guys,

I have an '06 with the 5.4L and it has about 43,000 miles on it. I have had all the regular services done at the dealership. Occassionally (maybe once every two weeks), the truck will have a hard start. I'll turn they key and it will sound normal, but then have some sort of hick-up. After that, it is then hard to get the truck started. Does this happen to anyone else? I have never had a problem with it not starting at all, but this still doesn't seem normal. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Interesting that the same thing happens to you. Like mentioned above, it is a little better if I hold the key longer when I'm trying to crank it. My old car (Lexus LX450) cranked a little faster, so it took a while to get used to holding the Ford down some to get it cranked.

Even with holding it though, it will sometimes have a funky start. It will always run fine once it is started though. Maybe it is just the nature of this engine.

Sounds to me like it's possibly the nature of an injector that leaks a little gas into the cylinder. I don't think it's normal for any of the 3V to start that way. Mine certainly doesn't. You have to remember that although the '05 is warranteed for something like 8 yrs. and 120k mi. on the injectors and any consequential damage, there have been quite a few with '06's that have had problems that clearly seem to be related to bad injectors. Unfortunately only the '05's are covered under that extended warrantee. If I had an '06 and had that kind of start I would definitely invest in some injectors that were NOT BOSCH! That or be prepared to empty the bank if it blows the engine and destroys the cats. on you.

Mine has done the same thing 06 f150 fx4. A couple of times a almost backfire sound has come from the engine area.....one time it blew a vacaum line off ( I took it to dealer and thats what the told me) It still has a hard start every now and then and does seem to idle rough...has anyone else had this and did your dealer fix? I am still under factory warr. should I take truck to dealer now. Like I said it only does it every now and then I thought maybe I was not holding key long enough but I see other with same problems.

I read this post and then remembered before my supercharger install last year I had the same thing happen to me at least once a week, I have an 05, what was replaced/swapped out for the install were the plugs, fuel injectors and of course the tune. I have not had the problem since the upgrade, so you may wanna check them fuel injectors and plugs maybe, but I am leaning towards the fuel injectors myself.
