P0133 question

Hey guys, my check engine light appears a couple of days. Then shuts off for weeks at a time, then eventually will come back on.

I borrowed a code reader and it read the following
P0133
O2 Circuit Slow Response
Bank 1 Sensor 1

1999 4.6 v8 2WD

whats the mileage? its the front sensor on the passenger side. check the sensor connections. and inspect the harness. may just be a connection issue. if all looks good then it may be the sensor. have they ever been replaced? does weather seem to affect it any? driving conditions affect it?

If you have over 100k, there's a good chance that the sensor needs to be replaced. It would be best to replace both front sensors if you do it. Use only a Bosch or Motorcraft sensor.

Thanks guys, I am at 370,00 K.
Weather , and driving conditions dont seem to matter, it just pops up now and again on its own.
I had one replaced at the dealership a couple of years ago, but i cant remember which one.

Where are these sensors located? will it be in my hanes manual? Approx, how much is a sensor.

Thanks

on rockauto.com they are 52 bucks each for motorcraft sensors. and they are right by your catalytic convertors on your exhaust system. your haynes manual should show them.

Nice pic guys " changing o2 sensors for dummies" Like me. Now, to get at these sensors, does anything have to be removed? or is there somewhat easy access?

Also, my check engine light has not been on for awhile, today we had lots of rain, the light came back on. Not sure if water would set it off!

wutagoalie,

FYI the O2 sensor uses a 22mm nut. Expect it to be stuck on if you have 370K on the vehicle. Do you know how to double wrench? Put that in the manual.....

Clean the MAF, disconnect the battery for a minute and start it up and check to see if the light comes back on.
