well from what i read only run the motorcraft plugs in there. i mean hey you know it works why put something "better" in there. and for the $300, it all depends on how much your own time if worth.
i helped a friend change his plugs and instal new cop's and let me say it is pretty involved, but still straight forward. We were able to do it in an afternoon with a few swear words along the way.
there is a good write up on here somewhere that i used. good luck

You do not use anti sieze on a 2002. They have problems keeping the plugs in. go with Motorcraft plugs. I would look for someone that knows more about Fords.

You also should torque them to 28 ft/lb instead of the recommended 15.

Is there any risk of damaging the heads/threads by doing this? I need my plugs changed soon and if I tell the dealer to torque them to 28ft/lbs will they actually do it?

I was told that the 04-08 3 valve torque was 25-28 ft/lbs and the 97-03 2 valve was 14-16 ft/lbs. Use antiseize on 3 valve and no antiseize on the 2 valve. There is only like 5 threads in the 2 valve head and if they are over torqued it will damage the threads causing a plug launch same will occur if they are under torqued or if antiseize is used. I did mine about a year and a half ago and didn't have any problems torqued at 16 ft/lbs.

if the 2v has aluminum heads why is anti-sieze NOT reccomended? Just curious as I have to change my plugs soon on my 2002 5.4 4x4 screw.

Because they do not have enough threads to hold the plugs in. The plugs have a tendancy to back out slightly, then blow ot, stripping the threads. Do a search on the plug blow ot problem. Anti-sieze would just make it easier for them to back out.

I have this local guy that does work out of his house i went over there a couple weeks ago just to talk and i saw he had another f150 sitting there i asked him about it, he said he just did a tuneup on it..

i wonder if he will let me sit in on the exchange... and give me a better price also! that would be sweet....

but then again what about that torque spec.... 16 or 28?

http://www.blownoutsparkplug.com/faqs.htm FAQ #48

This applies to all 4 thread heads. I don't know about the 8 thread heads, and it definitely doesn't apply to the 3V heads.

Your dealership should perform all service work to specs set forth in the Ford service manuals & supplemented by TSBs. Then they should be able to warranty the work that they perform. Here in CA, they are suppose to warranty their parts & labor for 1 year. If nothing goes wrong in a year, then you've gotten your money's worth.
