Are the valve stem seals rubber? If they are leaking you will get smoke at start up after it sitting for a day or two

If the are rubber, I have had success putting in about 1/2 a quart of ATF fluid, it makes rubber expand and they seal tight again.

I usually add the atf fluid, run it a week, then change the oil and filter.. back to good old motor oil

Stupid question, have you tried changing oil weights... I know 5w30 is alot different in consumption than a 10w40 or a 20w50 especially if you have some wear. 50k city driving is equal to double that on a highway vehicle.

I would try the cheap fix PVC, and raise the grade one level and reaccess
Well I took jbrews advice and picked up a motorcraft pcv valve and swaped out the fram...hopfully that will help!

I have always ran 5w20 motorcraft oil and filter...no more then 3000 miles between changes.

You need to do a wet and dry compression test and a leakdown test. If it's not the valve seals, it won't help you.
