old block heater question

I have a 98 F150 and to my knowledge the block heater has never been used.. atleast bymyself..i bought the truck with 87K on it and now it has 134k..well it wasnt until today i decided to use teh block heater.. my question is being that its 10 almost 11 years old and never been used , is it safe to use it now?? is there a possibility it could be bad and short and burn down the truck ??

Pull the plug out of the heater and check for corrosion. Too much corrosion and it will not heat. In that case clean the contacts on both the heater and the extension and plug it back in. Other than that you should be good to go.
