What year is your truck? what engine do you have? Please fill out your member profile information so those questions are answered on every post. It will automatically appear like mine does on the upper right of this reply. Sounds like it might be an Idle air control issue. there is a search feature on this board you should always use it.

do you have a tuner in it? you may need to get the latest program put into your computer(done by ford only).

Might need a reflash. Or the fly by wire throttle body is failing.

P0506 = Idle Air Control System RPM Lower Than Expected

drop the battery + lead, wait 30 minutes, reconnect, start, drive truck and see if code comes back.

(1) Is this the 1st time your truck has stumbled and stalled and then kicked out the code or have you been having driveability issues leading up to this code. Need this answer right away !!!!
(2) You say your not mechanically inclined but you can follow directions, if this is the case then we should be able to walk you through the process of cleaning out your IAC. Not a difficult job. There are members on here who have pic's (hint, hint Jbrew) that will guide you along as well.
(3) If you feel that this will be above your capabilites then try to find a Dealer or Mechanic who will clean the IAC rather than install a new one.
My experience, dealerships in the larger cities around me will install new, my local dealerships would clean the IAC, especially if I asked them to. Their Techs are honest enough to me anyway, to let me know if cleaning or new would be the best way to go, or if there is a different problem that exists.

Let us know what you want to do.

i havent had any issues before this and even this doesnt happen all the time. it may happen on monday and not happen again until friday. i got the guy at auto zone to reset the code and the check engine light went off but by the time i made it home it was on again. i would like to get pics and a walkthru on how to clean or change it. as a side note, i followed my dad's advice and removed the air intake and used throttle body cleaner to clean it, it now sounds better but still idles roughly like it will stall. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would try disconecting the battery with the lights on so the computer can cold restart. some times that fixes it but this is usually the throttle body failure. Damn fly by wire crap. Might carefully clean the throttle body.

some guys clean there throttle plate and it clears it up. but you still never said if you have a tuner or not. alot of people who get the edge tuners end up with that code alot of times.

By fly by wire I mean the throttle is computer controlled on the 04+ trucks. This is becoming a common problem for those.

I thought the 2004's had a electronic throttle and no IAC......................unless it's maybe a Heritage?
