My plug blew again! Help

Ok, I JUST went through this!

Read back in my posts. It's been a while since I have been here. I got my NEW motor from ford 3yrs ago after the SAME PROBLEM. I am driving home from work and it BLEW AGAIN!

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just spend almost $6K on a motor 3 yrs ago. I am not going to pay that again!

What do i do? I need to just need to get it to run cheap?

I guess hemi coil but how much would it run to put a hemi coil in it, a new coil, and labor?

How much is it worth in san diego the way it sits?

Thanks.....

I was going on a date in 2 hrs too.

A local shop can put in a heli coil. It should not be too expensive. There has been a lot of success with the fix.

How much are we talking bro? Where could I get a cheap coil? This one's spring is all busted out.

It has 175K on the truck, and about 50K on the new motor. Do you think ford would do anything after the fact? How much is it worth after the hemi coil?

eddie buaer, leather, rear air, 4x4, etc. Normal wear and tear. Not perfect.... in a bad economy at that.... car dealership said $1000 for it.

It is worth the same amount with the heli-coil in it. Sorry to say it, but you got HOSED on buying a new motor. You didn't need a new motor unless it had an internal problem from the plug blowing. At the very worst, it would need a new head. A good shop will be able to do the heli coil for a few hundred bucks. Do a search on here for it.

I have heard of them being done for 200 to 300. You can get a whole set of coils from Global on Ebay for less than 100.

Blownoutsparkplug.com is based in El Cajon. That is the absolute BEST way to do it, and being that you are in SD, you will not be charged travel. The second best way is a "Timesert" kit - do NOT use a helicoil. They will replace the plugs, torque them down correctly, and replace the damaged coil.

I believe that a timesert would be a better repair.

Galaxy will rent the kit to you.

FWIW, this guy did my dad's plug change on his 2004 5.4 with only 75k miles on it. He broke 4 plugs... not exactly what you would expect from a "pro" is it?

PS, he charges $175 for each one HE breaks...

Not even the same deal. The stuck plug problem on the 04+ trucks is totally different. Dealerships now have a newer method of repairing blown out plugs if it were me I'd call the dealer and talk to them about it and get an estimate. That would be the first choice.

Helio-coil kit cost about $14, and you get two in the kit. Need to get a "reamer/tap" that matches the size of the coil (about $20). Ream out the plug hole and re-thread. thread the coil on a spark plug and apply generous LOC-TITE (comes in the coil kit). Thread the plug into the newly tapped plug hole. Start the vehicle. You will hear some "clink-clink" noises as the shavings from the tapping exit the exhaust. Change plugs on your regular cycle.

On the "reamer/tap" I did a modification that I would recommmend....I took a long extension and socket that matched the drive end of the reamer, put them all together, and spot welded it so it was a one piece tool. Last thing you want to do is try and fish out the reamer if the connections come apart.

Truck had 92K on it when the plug blew, it now has almost 250K on it and the coil is holding just fine. Some will tell you not to use a helio-coil, but my experience has been fine, and they are much cheaper than a Time-sert.

Time-sert is better than heli-coil because it is staked to the head. Many plugs have come out with heli-coils wrapped around them but some people have had good luck
