Rough Starting

I have 98 f150 4.6 and when she starts in cold weather and has not been run in a few days, she is started and runs rough until i either push the gas pedal or let it run a little, then she smooths out, sometimes she will like yesterday surge while running, otherwise she runs and idkes fine when warm or warm weather

Done any maintenance lately? I'd start with the fuel filter....

sounds like it has to do with fuel to me. i'd start with the filter too. does the coolant temp gauge read normal? i'd have a scanner hooked to it and see what the pcm ect(1 for gauge and one for pcm) is reading before it starts. that could cause the injectors to drop in more fuel. then i'd check the fuel pump pressure and see if it leaks down.

I just bought the truck back in October, so far been fixing everything with the warranty that came with it, Four wheel drive just got fixed, Oil Pressure hose, dash lights, 3 months 3000 miles, so I had the air filter checkd, oil checked and was clean, but no the fuel filter yet, so will do that now

I have a truck thats a 98 f150 with the same motor, I had the same problem. Try getting your injectors flushed out. It's always good to have done after so many miles. Good luck with your problem bud.

On the back of the throttle body. I always take the throttle body off and clean it good and replace or clean the IAC.

How hard is it to take the Throttle body off? I am not the most experienced mechanic, plus it is 28 below wind chill here in Cadott, WI. Later in week might be 30, so is this a job I should get a mechanic to do? And if I need an IAC, about how much are they at auto parts stores? thank you everyone for your time, it has been a great help as I now have 4 wheel drive, and a new shield over my new actuator! Thanks to this group! Cost me only $150 with my deductible! thanks to the knowledge of people on here I was able to keep the dealer honest and cover it under warranty!

IAC's are about 50 bucks. The OBD2 port is under the dash, driver's side.
