Help?Advice? Engine Swap

Looks my '97 5.4 has bitten the dust at 116K. Need any advice i can get on engines that I can replace it with. Wanna stay with the 5.4. If anyone can help me with models and changes necessary to put later engines in my truck i would be much obliged.

any 5.4 2v will bolt right in. a 97 and 98 will be a direct swap with no changes needed what so ever. if you go with a 99-03 then you will need to get the pcm tuned because of the PI heads.

Can you elaborate Matt? I really wanna find a later model. It appears that most '97 and '98's have high mileage/

i'd look in the junk yards (expedition/f150/some navigators/e series vans). i'm sure you'll find a low mileage 5.4 2v there. and if the vehicle is a 99+ 5.4 2v then you can pull the pcm and harness that way no special tuning is needed. what kind of price range were you looking at?

What happened with the engine that is currently in the truck? Your cheapest route may be to rebuild/repair current engine or get a remanufactured 97/98. Are you looking for more power? Reliability? What is your goal?

I don't think you have to tune that swap Matt - Your only +25 hp/+15 trq - It will work without a tune AFAIK. Now you can dial it in better on the dyno, but I don't believe it's required.

If this isn't accurate, please post up.

Yea, I pretty sure all he has to do is tap the cross-over to incorporate his ECT sensor,- if he goes 99+.

The engine may be shot. A top end rebuild alone is over $1200. Been searching car-part.com for an engine. Looking into buying a whole salvage vehicle for the swap, something hit other than front. Need to be really sure of the difficulty. If i buy a whole truck, i can swap the disc rearend into my "97. That's one good thing that could come out of this. Trying to find a silver lining....lol

I have used this company many times in the past. They had great customer service and they actually stand behind their warranty.
