2000 f-150 plugs

2000 f-150 plugs

Does this model year have problems with broken plugs...and replace with what brand

broken plug problem is on the 04-07 3v engines. Motorcraft plugs are best.

jjbigg, Did you replace yours and how did it go. My 2000 is ready for replacement and I usually pay to have it done. After reading all the different posts I'm going to change them myself. Broke a plug off in a 92 Dakota V6. What a pain. Don't want to go through that again.

The 2000's are the ones that have a tendency to eject plugs. Do not use anti-seize on them, and torque them down tighter than the factory 15 ft/lb specs - go for about 28.

Not just push, spits or blows. Usually destroys a COP at the same time.

thats the first time ive heard the torque them down higher then 15.

to be safe should we really be torgueing them at 28? will that help a blowout

is that 250,000 miles on original motor? how long ago u change plugs. but damn im hopin mine goes up there in mileage. good job!

The problem is that the heads for a few years had too few threads in the sparkplug hole. The plugs would work loose and then when only 1 or 2 threads holding, the plug will blow, stripping the threads out. Requires a Timecert or Helio coil to repair, or new head. Do searches using key words, you will find lots to read.

same motor. I haven't really had many problems with the truck as a whole. I've replaced both upper control arms,both remote door acuators,spare tire holder.I have a problem now with a coolant leak that I posted.My mechanic says the engine is bulletproof and I can't complain.As far as the plugs,I have always taken it to mechanic when it starts running rough( as it is right now) and let him change them and the coils. I have only had done it twice since I've had it. I'm going to try it myself this time.

the heads started production on March 12 2002 but never actually hit the production till after April 2003 at the latest. I was looking for a motor with the updated heads and the newest salvage I could find still had the 4 threaded plugs which was assembled on April 1 2003.
