Bad timing

the romeo engine and windsor engine use different timing positions, romeo engines use 90' degree marks on camshaft sprockets on both sides, easy enough. the windsor which i have says from front of engine left side 12'oclock right side 11'oclock does this mean eyeball 12 and 11'oclock there is no place for point of referance it seems very vague and i cant rely on something like that this is what haynes manual says, total b.s. in my opinion

From: Georgia on my mind...
Put the crank keyway at 9:00, put a mark on the timing chain, put a corresponding mark on the cam gear, and put everything back the way it was when you go back together with it.
