NEED Help Oil Pressure Question
NEED Help Oil Pressure Question
Started my 2001 5.4 Expedition this morning, and noticed when all the warning lights cleared, the oil pressure light stayed on. There was no knocking or ticking, that I could hear. I tapped the gas, and the pressure gage, went up, and light went out. Shut it off after about a minute. Went back out and restarted it, and light went right off. How long does everyones pressure, and light stay on?
Oh yeah forgot, its 18 degrees with a wind chill of 0.

If there was no noise related to the light being on then I wouldn't worry to much. Sometimes the oil pressure sender switch will not react fast enough even though you have plenty pressure or the sender goes bad and stays on all the time. The oil passage that goes to the sender is fairly small in diameter so dirty oil, crud, or condensation could delay the sender from acting fast enough. If you experience noise (rattling, knocking, etc) and the light is on then shut the truck off ASAP. Oil pressure on these engines can reach well over 120 psi during cold startups in places of severe cold. If the problem persists try changing the sender unit. Take care.
YOu are correct. Had dealer look at it, and it was teh sending unit. Went ahead got it replaced, along with a 100000 service. truck should be good to go for a while. Although they did say the lower ball joints look worn, so I will be tackling that over teh holidays.
