Does this sound right?

I called our local Ford Dealership where I bought my truck to ask how they charge to change my plugs. Cause after all the horror stories I didn't want to mess with it. They said it was $79.99 for labor and $20 for all 8 plugs. That sound about right? I figured it would be more expensive from what I read on here.

HI!... Remind me not to buy plugs where you do!

Plugs are like $35(CAN) here. Our local stealership charges 3 hours minimum to change plugs on a F-150 with 5.4. At $100(CAN) a hour for labour. So minimum here you pay about $335(CAN) + taxes. I change my own plugs on my 5.4. So far my record is 28 minutes start to finish. If you do your own, make sure you put never seize on the plug threads and don't reef them down.

I didn't see what engine you have. If it's a 4.6, the plugs are about $4.00 each. My dealership wanted $325.00 to change plugs in my 2004 4.6. I did them myself and took my time. The COPS were the biggest pain, not the plugs. If you have a 5.4, the price isn't even close.

Wow that seems real low for the plugs. Also, people have bad stories about dealerships breaking the plugs, then charging for the head removal and all that. They dont cover their mistakes. I took mine out with 50k miles on them orginal plugs and broke zero. We also took some out of a truck with 65k miles orginal plugs and broke zero.

I dont know how people break them so easy. 2 on my truck and 2 other the other guys were tough, but not even close to breaking. People perhaps are a bit to rough or dont spray any WD40 to help break the plug loose.

Yea, that's the suck you in the door price. If you want your truck back , those numbers could change drastically. Not kidding.

No thats not right. I paid $210 to have them (the dealer) do the plugs in my E-350 van.I paid $35 for motor craft plugs from rock auto and the dealer installed them. They put the Global coils on it to. The dealer wanted $14.75 per motor craft plug.

Dealer price on a 3V plug change should be in the $400 range. Plugs are $ 20 EACH and it's a 3 hour book job if I'm not mistaken. The wells have to be soaked with carb cleaner prior to removal.

I would believe $20 per plug and $79.99 an HOUR.

This is going to be interesting- The guy says "Oh, I thought you said you had a 302 in that thing, i thought you said '94, not '04. That'll be $784. because we broke 2 of the plugs- cashier's right over there, by the way we only take cash here- too many bad checks, ya' know- have a nice day"

Neal- I'd drive to Canada to have you change 'em just to see you change 'em in 28 min. '04-5.4 3V.
