Update....went to the dealership today. Just like you guys said it was wrong. The guy said he had no clue who or why they had quoted me that other price. Its about $350 total. He said about $145-$150 labor and the rest parts for plugs & boots. About 3 hrs to change.

I just had plugs & wires done on my 97 4.6L.
I was gonna do it myself in the spring, but it started missing real bad and put the CEL on....

Motorcraft plugs $58.48
Motorcraft wire set $118.85
labor to change plugs and wires $245.00

Not having to do it for the first time in 28 degree weather......priceless!

Local shop, not dealer......

Are the wire sets usually that expensive?

Local parts places around here usually sell their brand or Borg warner....

I was actually surprised when the mechanic told me he was gonna put motorcrafts in, he put Bosch plugs in the wife's Taurus and my T-Bird.

I was ready to insist on the Motorcrafts....

Yeah - Motorcraft wires aren't cheap. Dealer nailed me $120 for a set for my V-6.

Id get that quote in writing and then take it in. I think they are only allowed to go 10% over a written quote. That'd teach em!

HI!... No problem. I can change them on my 5.4 2-valve in 28 minutes just like I said. If your going to come, make sure you bring the beer. Here's a pic of my engine compartment. You'll see why I can change them so fast. I was smart enough to relocate things so the plug changes are simple. I change my plugs about 5 times a year do to I race the truck.

You guys that think you can change 3v plugs in 28 minutes - or will do it for $100 - don't know what you are getting in to. They are nowhere near as straightforward as 2v, and odds are you will break at least one plug off. Have the TSB in hand, plenty of carb cleaner, and the extractor tool available.
