Spark Plug suggestions...

Ok well I'm about to replace the plugs on my truck. It has a small misfire at idle and its slowly gotten worse. Any suggestions on what to do and what not to do? Any help would be appreciated...

Do you have the 5.4 and was your truck built between 2004 and 07? If so do a search, there is a lot about this subject and broken plugs.

I think the only thing is with yours assuming it's an 04 like your stats say is once they ALL come out, the new ones get a light coating of anti-seize and torqued.

Yep, go back with the Motorcraft with a coating of nickle anti-sieze on just the long shank, not on the threads. Be sure and do some research on the TSB so you know what to expect and how to go about the removal.

Before you try to pull those plugs, you need to spend some time reading threads here about the sticking and breaking issues. Ford has a TSB that has very specific instructions on how to do it, and if you do break any, you will need special tools to recover. I think the 04's were the worst because they didn't use antisieze at the factory.

If it's got over 50K miles on it, IMO it's safe to assume that you're gonna break some plugs upon removal.

after breaking 1 and having the lisle extractor not work and several, several hundreds of dollars later...my advice is to take it into a good dealership. I know it's hard to find sometimes, but I brought mine into 1 to finish a job that I, and a machine shop, couldn't finish. Ford got it done in half a day.

if you do try it yourself, the ford technician told me his trick was to epoxy a piece of wire to the broken porcelain, and pull it out after it sets up. Then an extractor will work. He was actually a pretty cool guy. I guess he felt bad for all the trouble I got myself in. he said they do them all the time, but still cringe every time they get one.

I had my plugs changed by the dealer, most posts say to stick with motorcraft plugs.

You don't have much choice, there aren't too many available. The current recommendation is Motorcraft PZT14F.

They are not manufactured to Ford specs.
