detonation on regular and premium gas

Ok the questions. after having the truck on regular gasoline 87 oct.. and having detonation, dealer told me can't do anything about it, just told me add a higher octanage gas.. so I did today, I filled the tank using premium 93 oct. and I still have the detonation, what would be the next step to take... any help would be apreciated.what can be causing this ?

thanks

I had the same problem with 87 on my '07 5.4 .. I went to one dealer and he told me the same thing.. nothing can be done.. Went to a second dealer and they flashed the PCM ... That has pretty much fixed it for me.. Also changed the shift strategy... I say go to another dealer. I did ask what if theis didn't fix it and was told that's all they have at this point.. If something else coms along like a TSB they'll notify me.

Bump the timing up a few degrees Sounds like you have a bunch of kids as mechanics working at your Ford house who can't think beyond a computer readout. The reason for pre-ignition is that your timing is set to fire before the piston reaches the top of the stroke. Yeah, I know that the computer shoudl adjust for that, but not in all cases. Just do a manual timing adjustment of two degrees advanced from where it is now.

Ignition timing hasn't been adjustable in over ten years on an F-Series gasoline engine truck.

Damn sure better be under warranty... When I pay good money for something, I EXPECT it to friggin work. I have an 07 KR. Why did I buy it? My 98 Chevy Tahoe was a money pit. The thing was a POS...So, I unloaded it and bought an 00 Lariat F150. 175,000 miles and eight years later, it started giving me problems. Maybe NEVER changing the plugs was cause for some of my issues The truck was bullet proof. (Except for the coils) That is why I bought another Ford. I sincerely hope it works out for you

Good grief! Even if you could, you would need to retard the timing instead of advancing.

Take it to another dealer.. Tell them it pings on regular and super... If you're under 36,000 miles it will be covered.. Just try to talk to the folks and see if they plan on flashing it.. Maybe ask about doing this...

If you have an '07, like I do, then everything should be under warranty. Sounds like you need to find a second opinion at another dealership.

Dude that is AWESOME!

You just need to show those IDIOTS at the Dealership how to twist that dang distributor a few degrees to the right... or is it the left? Whatever. And check to see... you might need to change the springs to re-curve the mechanical advance - if your computer doesn't have enough bites it might not compensate for weakened springs. An if'n that don't work, clean your points, check the vacuum secondaries, make sure the choke's not stuck, and rejet the carb.

That ought a'bout do it.
