'06 5.4L Sputtering
My turck drives fine, idles fine, and everything, but when I'm cruising along and need to pass someone and gas on it it will rev up and then start sputtering. kinda sounds like a rev limiter(sp?), but my RPM's are only like 3000-3500. if i let off the gas and then do it againit will stop. the funny thing is I left Southeast, Texas to go to North, texas for like a month and a half it never done, not once. But yet when I retunrd it started again. Has anyone had their 5.4 do that? if so can you give me some insite. I have changed the fuel filter many times and that never seems to be it.
Mine will occassionally did this under WOT at higher rpms. Sounded like crap through the magnaflows when it did this. I just ran 2 cans of good ole sea foam in it with a full tank of gas and it seemed to clean it up and clear it up. Filled up for w/o the sea foam tonight. We'll see tomorrow if it really worked. Figured maybe the injectors weren't letting it get enough gas? I am not a mechanic, but it seemed a good logical place to start. BTW truck is an 06 5.4 with 51K miles.
Well the elivation is probably alittle higher in north texas and dry air. I live in Lumberton, tx about 1 1/2 hrs n of houston so we arent very high above sea level. Sea Foam?? Ive not heard of this. where can I get it?? My truck sounds really horrible, Ive got Flowmaster 40 series.
Well I finally Figured out what the problem was. I have a misfire and my C. Converter is messing up.

I'm having a similar problem on my 2006 5.4L with 55,000 miles. Until recently, it didn't happen often, but now I can't get hard on the throttle without an engine miss. How did you find out it was the catalytic converter (assuming that's what a C. Converter is)?
I'm concerned that it's going to be an expensive fix, so any help would be appreciated.

In case anybody else stumbles on this post, it ended up being the #5 ignition coil. While it was in, I had them replace the spark plugs, since I've read of a number of people having issues with taking them out.
I had this same problem on my 06 5.4 XLT at about 51,000 miles.
I changed the plugs, and cleaned up the COP's really good, a little dielectric grease on the boots and it fixed the problem.
I also went with the Edge Evolution, absolutely amazing how much better my truck runs after the Edge... I HIGHLY SUGGEST everybody get a tuner, doesn't really matter the brand or style, everybody has their own preference, but I am thrilled about mine.
If you are looking into a tuner, look for JackandJanet's posts in the programmers and tuners section of the forums, He has a lot of insight into the gryphon tuner and PHP custom tunes. I'm sure you will get all the information you need.
I would also like to know about the cats!!!

and i wouldnt recommend an edge, they just seem to cause too many issues IMO. a tuner makes a hell of a difference in power considering how slow the 5.4's are with the stock tune, but i'd consider a custom tuner like the gryphon or sct and what not.
