Is this true? If so How can I tell if my truck falls under this.

Go with the 4.6 with 3.73 LS. I can beat my cousins 06 5.4 w/ 3.55 and we have the same mods. I also get 15 mpg and he gets 12-13.

Thank you for this comment, I was hoping to find some comfort in going to the 4.6 over my Ranger.....the gas mileage in the Ranger was absolutely horrible for a truck that could tow nothing...

With the mods in my sig i was avg 20MPG for a while in the summer now that its winter im back to 16 witch is a great improvment from when the truck was 100% stock getting 10MPG. i stomp 04-07 5.4L F-150 and i hang with if not out run 97-03 5.4's before i ever got my longtubes and E-fan 45-rev limiter i was a nose out of a 98 5.4L. And as a few of you know i like to push the limits of my lil truck. The frist picture is me hauling a skid of bricks weghing 2,565lbs. the 2nd pic is 5,000lbs or close to it. i have a pillard pod with Engine temp tranny temp and oil press. engine temp never went above 185* and tranny never went above 150* with a lil bit of work these motors can run with 5.4's Yes i know if you go mod for mod the 5.4 will win im just saying they helped with MPG's alot. And they can haul stuff. Anyways heres pictures

When I bought my truck 3.5 years ago, my choice was between my 99 Toreador Red 4.6 supercab xlt w/ console, 17 lariat wheels and a 97 bright red xlt with gray on bottom supercab 5.4. I picked the my 99 cause it had the newer bumper, grille, valance, and what not. It had a console, cd player. It looked nicer. It also remind me of my previous single cab 4.6 which flew and ate up my buddys 5.3 chevy on a regular basis.

If I knew what I know now I would have got the 97. 5.4 for starters, most likely had the E4OD, and a 9.75 sterling axle. I wcould have changed the bumper or interior or do ANYTHING.

Did I make a mistake.... i say no cause its been a great reliable ford truck. But one things for sure, my next one will be a 5.4 w/ factory 4.10s

This 100% backs up tarajerme's statement
