4sixxx is out. . .pics
I got a question about how to pull the engine. So i see you had to take the intake man. off, did that only require taking the 4 bolts on each side off? And question 2 is did you take the plenum and tb off first? Than the intake man? trani bolts and motor mount bolts then pull it out?
I did not remove the TB. You can see the full complete intake in the last picture on the hood of the maro. I unplugged the fuel injectors from the harness and pulled the spark plug wires to gain access to the intake bolts. you have to get the special fuel line remover tools, d/c those, there is a heater hose coming from the firewall that has to be removed off of the back of the intake. Add a few vacuum lines, EGR tube, grounds, and more wiring and the intake would come out.
The intake bolts in the back section are best reached with a 10MM swivel on a long extention. The rear-most driver side was the hardest. Use a small mirror to see it. there are quite a few bell housing bolts. MAKE sure you try to pull the dipstick out or totall unbolt the engine mount off the block. There are 3 13MMbolts that hold it to the block. Onbolt the BIG 15 MM engine mount bolt 1/2 inch to clear the head of the lower 13MM mount bolts. Key thing is take off the fan and AC Compressor and make sure you unplug the O2's from the rear of each head, also the crank shaft posi sensor up front

the 5.4 harness will be plug-n-play? i'm pretty sure all 5.4's used COPS and you need a tune for the 5.4 anyway
if the engine you're getting uses coils and wires then it's another 4.6
I'm re-using my 4.6 harness since I am using my coil instead of the 5.4 COP harness. . .
camarothatcould, did you take your ac unit off the block and keep it in the bay? and what hook points did you use. I cant see any way i can reach the rear of the motor! Can you sent me some pics of your bay without the engine in it?
Yes, there are 4 bolts I believe that hold the compressor on, leave it in the bay.
I used the rear of the head, theres a hole there, also in front behind the water pump. Good points, use strong bolts, I used my intake bolts, I wouldnt advise it though. .
Heres all the pics youll need

its less of a hassle and slight savings in the long run to just unmount the compressor without breaching the lines.
you could hold off, but i wouldnt recommend it since there's a significant difference in tuning and a possibility of problems. you could if its going to be low load low rpm operation.

Trucks just around town and highway, never towing or a steady load on it. I do want to take it easy because of the transmission though, that 4.6 stall will probably give the trans a hard time. I will eventually get it tuned though, just for now though I cant/
alright thats off. Now my starter. It seems like the very bottom holt is a frickin stud! Why the HELL did they put a stud in a frickin starter, that is the dumbest ***** i have ever seen! How did you get ur starter out with that stud being there?
It's not really a stud, it's a bolt - That second nut doesn't turn on the stud. It's machined in.

Actually it get's you more than 40HP; and if you can source good used heads-intake, it's a cheap swap... Toss a set of Comp Cams in there and you're looking at 60HP-ish. That's not bad for maybe $1200
