missfire after replaciing air filter
Guaranteed answer!!! You can try denatured alcohol to clean the MAF but it's about a 1/3 chance you will be successfull- might just have to change to MAF.
Clean the maf again, CRC electronic cleaner is fine. Let it dry for 15 minutes before you start it. If that doesn't fix it, its plugs and (maybe) cops time. As I said, 90k is right around plug change time anyway. My plugs, wires, and coil pack only made it to 84k.
Sounds like a bad coil. Power brake in gear with out spinning tires if it misses you have a bad coil good luck finding the right one unless you have scanner. Also I would replace spark plugs before one blows out of the head very big problem in that year.
Another variation.
If it fits this discription, you have a bad coil.
'Misses at light throttle in OD but not under heavy throttle load or a down shift.
Reason is the fuel mix in very lean under those operating conditions and a coil with "shorted turns" has low output on one cylinder but is not totaly dead.
This kind of fault will not set a code or a CEL.
Why after changing or servicing the air filter is just a coinsidence.
You have to address the issue and not spend time trying to link it to some other action.
Sometimes there is more than one problem present and have to be recognized and delt with seperately.
Good luck.

I had a similar problem 6-7 months ago. (I use paper filters.)
I took my air cleaner housing apart to get to the MAF sensor to clean it. I thought I had it cleaned but was still having a problem. After a couple of days of the same problem, I bought a new can of CRC Electronic's cleaner. I stripped down the filter housing so I could get a better view of the MAF and found that there was still "gunk" built up on the super thin wires. I took my new can of CRC cleaner and sprayed the crap out the sensor. When I was done, it looked like a new sensor from the box. The new can had 100% more pressure than the can I had sitting around.
Problem went away.
This may or may not help you fix your problem but it will assure you that your MAF is clean and you can eliminate this as a possible cause.
Good Luck

missfire
well it really started missfiring worse than ever and it finally threw me a code. The code was #1 cylinder misfiring. Which one is the #1 on this truck, 2001 5.4 ? Someone said #1 is on driver side in front, is this correct?
Yes. Just so you know #2-3-4 are on the same side as #1
Cylinder #5 is on t he driver side in front followed by #6-7 and 8.

Change air filter
Make sure you check the lower right plug wire under the clamp for the air filter. While you wrestle with the housing for the air filter you might pry off the plug wire from the ignition coil.
Been there, done that.
Been there, done that.

cool deal
No **** Sherlock, I didn't pull off the #1 when I changed the air filter, I guess it was just coincidence that the coil went right after I changed the filter!!
