The lightnings use the same rods as the regular 5.4's. They just use lower compression forged pistons and the forged cranks, that all 5.4's had before 2001 and half them had it after 50/50 chance.

Well..........My motor is actually a long block from 2003 F250 SD with a 2003 Lightning Supercharger. This motor is completely stock. I was told by Mike Troyer that it has the same cams and forged bottom end as the Lightning. The only difference is the pistons. They are hyperutectics with 9.0:1 compression. This is why I'm only running 8psi. of boost. Mike said that this would be safe and has been done plenty of times.
The higher compression, fully built exhaust, K&N, and HPP Racing's excellent tunning capabilities where the basics of achieving 381RWHP. This truck, like yours, also has the 4R70W. It was built and has a Stage 2 Superior Fairbanks shift kit with a 1700-1900 Low Stall HD torque converter. I went with the low stall since the supercharger makes so much horsepower down low and because it is a 4X4. Oh and I still have the stock 3.55 gears. 8.8" IFS and I upgraded the rear to a 9.75". I have recently bought 3.73's to install when I get the time. I'm also thinkin' about going to 9psi. of boost. I figure with the gears and 1psi. extra boost I'll hit 400rwhp and be (safe)happy.
At any rate. Hope you've enjoyed my rambling! And Remember: JESUS CHRIST is LORD!

That's a 1000HP+ Twin Turbo Cobra Mustang in front of my truck! They had about 20 Cobra Stangs at their two shops! Half of them had their custom turbo kits! They also had a couple of Lightnings that they were installing huge Kenne Bell blowers on.......Check em' out! http://www.hppmotorsports.com/index.html

Ah ha, glad you ask my friend! When I got my supercharger setup, I didn't get the threaded lightning crank pulley. I did get the lower supercharger drive pulley (which is on ebay right now, Item #290268786145). So, I bought a 99' Lightning crank pulley and a L.F.P. lower pulley kit with +2 psi. of boost. With that being said, as I've stated before, Mike Troyer suggested that I keep the boost low on my hyperutectic pistons. So he sold me a Harley Davidson Edition upper blower pulley that measures 3.11 inches to replace my Lightning upper pulley that measures 2.91 inches. This puts me at 8psi. If I change it out for a 3.01 inch upper pulley with my +2 psi lower pulley, it will put me at an estimated* 9 psi. Makes sense right?

Built54,
By the way I wanted to ask you a couple of questions....What size tires and what size gears are you running? Also looks like we've got the same Cruiser Alloy 20's? I just got a new set of tires....Cooper Discover H/T Plus M+S P285/50R20. Love Em'! I also put my stock 2" blocks back on and I droped the front an inch. It handles so much better now. I'll post new pics soon! Anyhow here I go rambling again!! God Bless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What RPM do you run at 70mph?? Right now I am running 2000rpms in OD lockup at 70. You have 1" taller tires and maybe a little bit higher stall torque conv. but, i'm try'n to figure out if the 3.73's that I have are going to be worth installing..........thanks

They will be emailing me with pics throughout the installation so i will be able to update the thread as well.

Truck is at the shop and they are starting on it tomorrow morning.

I wanted to ask this though - they are going to use a 2,500 stall converter for the trans. Is that too high since i tow a 3,000lb. trailer, etc?

Ok thanks, what is the advantage of using a higher stall speed converter?

Lower trans temps?

higher stall will usually = higher tranny temps to an extent, i would suggest a big tranny cooler if your going to be towing too, the advantage to them is the motor spools up higher before the truck will start to move so you are in the power range of the motor more often
