Which oil?

OK...I just got a new F-150 with the 4.6 V-8. It's the extra cab. I will have to say I love the thing. I traded a 06 Dodge quad cab V-8 Dakota. Anyway I have always run Mobil 1 5W30 in all vehicles. Ran it in 89 Toyota too except Iused 15W50. Anyway...I see many like Amsoil and some like MObil 1. I'll put new oil in this soon and I want to know what all prefer and why. I see many that don't like Mobil 1 because of so called sludging issues. What do yall suggest and why? Thanks for the help. I'm sure this will seem like ebating a dead horse since this has been brought up before probably.

I think the general consensus is its not really the brand that matters but the frequency. The sludging issues are from waitng too long between changes. Congrats on the new ride!

I agree with MikeSwt. There's nothing wrong with Mobil1. I've been runnin it in my 02' 4.6 since new, changin it every 5000 miles. I've got 131,000 miles on it with no issues at all. Also agree with the Motorcraft Sparkplugs, changed mine at 100,000 miles and they still looked good!

Whatever oil you use, use the recommended 5W20 grade. I use Mobil 1 EP and a Mobil 1 filter.

Motorcraft 5w-20 is an good oil at a good price. If your oil change interval is 5000 miles or less I'd stick with the MC. Mobil 1 or Amsoil would be my choice for extended drains.

On a side note, the Motorcraft products (fluids, filters, plugs etc.) are very good quality and easily attainable. When in doubt...

For your truck, Amsoil 0W20 and Amsoil EaO11 filter. (FL820S counterpart number). AMSOIL does get a bad wrap and a lot of the time it's due to the price. It as mentioned, it's actually cheaper in the short term if you use it as intended.

I also don't like the word "extended" drain intervals. 10,000 miles should be the normal with today engine/oil technology.

I will agree though, if you're going to change your oil every 3-5,000 miles anyways no matter what anyone says, then financially speaking (and only financially) Amsoil would not be the most prudent choice. Still the best choice IMO, but not the most prudent.

If however, you fall into that last category and did want to use Amsoil, Amsoil does have an API certified line of oils called the XL series. They are not intended for the 10,000+ drain intervals (they're rated for 7,500) and are constructed very similarly to the Mobil 1's and other brands you get right off the shelf. Price is competitive on the XL oils also. They have the XL in a 5W20. Good luck either way...can't go wrong.

My only problem with the Amsoil is truthfully I can't get it at good ole Wal-Mart. Other than that lots of people seem to like it. As far as Motorcraft I know it's Fors stuff...but is their oil synthetic? Again..thanks for the help guys. By the way...I like this ride.

I use Motorcraft 5W20 oil in both my vehicles and for the price you cant go wrong. Its not a full synthetic but a synthetic blend.
