Misfire Problem HELP!!!
Well since I had the money I just bought a new motorcraft COP for cylinder 1. I also bought a fuel filter as I also read somewhere on here that may sometimes be the issue. I will keep you all updated once I put them on.
Thanks for all your help.
Thanks for all your help.
BUT, your way off man. The V8's haven't had wires since 2001. If you don't know that, I suggest you lockdown the keyboard unless you have a question for us
I have a 2005 F150 Scab 5.4. I have 47k miles on it. The problem that I am having is when ever I have to step on it to pass or sometimes when I have to get on the highway and need to floor it for a second it seems to misfire and the engine light flashes for a min and then everything returns to normal.
I was going to get all the plugs changed. The dealer told me it would run me $250 and could go all the way up to a $1000 if they break. He asked why I was getting mu plugs changes early and I explained. He told me it sounded like a COP.
So I did so research on here and then went to advanced auto to have my computer ran to find out what cylinder is missing. They have an OBD II and it gave no codes. They recommeded that I go to a mechanic to run my computer. So then I went to my local mechanic. He told me he could run it for $25. He ran it, gave no codes to him either so he didnt charge me.
The engine light flashes when this happens. How could there be no codes? How do I know what COP to replace. I just want the misfire to stop. Please help!!!!!
Thanks in advance!

This really isn't a failing coil characteristic. Coils fail either w/low-grade misfire issues, such as a miss right after the vehicle shifts into OD (under normal acceleration) - or Primary and Secondary failures which would generate a constant cell vrs. a blinking one.
2005's have two main issues. The biggest of that model specifically is the injectors. Get them checked out, it's free for you. They included a mandatory 100,000 mile warranty on the 2005's injectors. Take it in, - even if this doesn't end up being the problem, the dealership will most likely tell you what the problem is before they do the work on it. - (since this involves your $$$ now)..
2nd issue is of course the plug issues which is a "3 valve specific problem", your far from being alone on this one. If I had to guess, you have a fractured plug, - hence your description.
Yea, take it in first.

It sure wouldn't hurt to try the COP first, especially now that you bought it and electrical parts are generally not returnable - that's a heck of a lot easier and cheaper than screwing with those 3v plugs!
By the way, Jim - some guy on Ebay (not Global) has the 3v cops now - I think they are about 22 bucks a pop. Someone's got a thread here asking about them.

Will they just check the injectors for free or are they B.S.ing me? If they will check the injectors for free I will be there asap!

Thats my plan. I figured it could hurt to try the COP first plus I am due for a fuel filter in my opinion. As soon as I paid for the COP they said there was no returns on electrical parts.
If it were me. I'd start with plugs. Most common reason for a misfire. Then go from their if it continues. Sucky part of doing that, is by the time you usually find out what it is, you've pretty much got new parts everywhere that didnt need to be replaced. Upside, it works again.

I have an 01 Supercrew 4X4 & 02 Supercab both with cops & with both trucks I have had the same problem. The problem that fixed both of mine was an excessive amount of moisture in the rubber boot between the cop & the plug. I guess it is grounding out or puts a strain on the coil with the acceleration. I went to Autozone & got a code of a misfire on cylinder # 7 on one truck & # 5 on the other. the store rcommended that it is the coil. I bought one, went home & discovered the water in the boot. I cleaned the rubber boot out, cleaned the spark plug, & blew out the hole with an air compressor & put back together with the old cop & everything works just fine now. The same thing happened with both trucks. Autozone would not let me return the cop so now I have an extra, if one ever does go out or if a friend ever needs one for their F-150.
Well after replacing the COP, and changing the fuel filter problem solved. No misfire at all. I did however break the blue clip to the fuel line that connects to the filter. I went to NAPA, Advanced, Autozone, Carquest and NO ONE had the clip. I ended up going to the dealer and they said you cannot just buy the clip so I had to buy the 12" piece of hose for $59 that is before the filter with the clips on it. So changing my fuel filter was a great $70 job!! But hey I cannot complain because my problem is fixxed!!!
