Get a programmer! Best bang for the buck in term's of power gain's and a little better fuel mileage if you don't have a lead foot!

So if you all dont think it is wise investment what would be .
I have 03 sc 4.6 dual from cat back and the previous owner put a k/n filter in the stock box .
So what would you recomeend for midrange 'round town ,
end some highway .
If you had the stimulus check to spend on some enjun mods.
Want power and mileage and something to stop me from gettin old .
Newest truck I have ever owned ,previous
89 5 spd bronco
b4 that
78 bronco ranger
Still have bof of dem (LOL)
Thanks in advance for any and all recomendations.

for you I recomend the "gotts intake" it out performed (in my opinion) my K&N CAI, also after the "gotts intake" I'd look at electric fans and a custom tune (via a: gryphoon, diablo or Xcal2) those will be your best bang for the buck upgrades without pressurizing the intake

link to the "gotts intake" here: https://www.f150online.com/forums/ex...take-pics.html

by the way welcome to the site and a great highjack of this thread

Long tube headers will give a significant boost in HP I've read. If I were going to modify my truck it would be Long tubes programer and then gears..

I don't have a TBS, but here are my thoughts anyway...

The ONLY potential benefit would be when you mash the pedal right off the line. Your engine draws in a bunch of air quickly and having the spacer in there would give you a slight larger volume of air, already past the filter (point of greatest resistance presumably) to get "inhaled" by your engine.

You also create a greater likelihood for failure because you have an extra connection in your intake. Just one more place to have an intake leak (if that's even what they are called).

Some of the TBSs claim to create a vortex effect... I think that's BS.

you can go to the "chips, tuners and programmers" forum and see what they recommend over there.

Ok, I know I'm probably gonna get criticized like hell for this but here it goes...

I have a throttle body spacer coupled with a budget SIDO cat-back exhaust job installed on my truck. Its a 5.4 24v. The only thing I had in mind when spending money on these things was better fuel mileage. Period. With that said...

After installing the TBS, I consistently noticed roughly 1.5 mpg better than stock. I tested this on numerous highway trips between college and home, so I believe my numbers are fairly accurate. After having exhaust done, I noticed even better mpg numbers, roughly another 2 mpg.

After the TBS and exhaust, I'm hitting anywhere between 20-21.5 mpg on relatively flat highway; rolling hill type highway, somewhere in the high 18's low 19's (at worst). Believe me or not, I don't care. All I know is that I ran the numbers after every trip and thats what they were. Take it or leave it.

To go even further, I thought I would try to up the mileage even more with a CAI. I did the research and ordered an S&B intake and installed it. I LOST 5 MPG AUTOMATICALLY. Before you ask, NO, I didn't spend 400 bucks on a custom tune. I'm a friggin' college kid. Money is a bit of an issue. I contacted numerous manufacturers and NONE of which said they required a custom tune. So I didn't bother.

So despite everyone bashing TB spacers, I stand by mine. It coupled with a regular ol' CLEAN (notice I say CLEAN) paper filter and the stock intake and a budget aftermarket cat-back exhaust allows me to burn a mere 6.5 gallons of gas on the 133 mile trip home on the weekend. Oh and by the way...this is all on 87 octane, no ethanol.

To each his own...
