quick question

hey guys i just have a quick one here.......i bought a fan clutch from car quest and just removed my original motorcraft one, and the mc one is bigger than the car quest one so i called them to make sure it was the right one and they said yes it was the severe duty one and if the bolt pattern is the same then it should be ok. Can i use this one or do i need to get the $170 motorcraft one from ford?

Is it made for your year truck and model truck? If not, don't use it.

hows it smaller exactly? is it just shorter or is the diameter of the clutch smaller? its probably a universal clutch.

Yeah, the diameter of the clutch housing itself is a little smaller, but carquest said that was the one for my truck, he double checked the part # and ford wants $170 for a motorcraft clutch..

yeah it should work as long as it bolts on fine. its probably built for any motor with the same bolt pattern and the way it mounts onto the waterpump.

So i wonder why its smaller? The carquest parts guy said it was the severe duty one, but wouldnt the severe duty clutch be bigger? The severe duty clutches i looked up online said they were 70 cubic inches, i dont know how many this one i have is....Im kinda hesitant to put it on but i dont want to bend over for ford either......$170 is outrageous.

i think the severe duty is just a tighter clutch. i dont think the size makes the difference.
