The weirdest thing....

My truck had the dreaded engine "tick" since I bought it (used, 24K) it now has 70K on the odo. The tick was pretty loud and annoying, but I learned to live with it. About 2 days ago, it stopped! Now it runs nice and quiet. I have done nothing as far as service since my last oil change a month ago. Go figure........

mine ticks bad right at start up. After that, it doesn't completely go away, but it's hardly noticeable. I've always attributed it to the oil draining out of the heads / lifters and it ticks until the oil pressure builds up pushes oil back up there.

You are not using a Fram or a cheap lube joint filter are you? The anti drainback?

Get a WIX oil filter with anti drainback to prevent lifter tick. Only ticking my motor does is the stock injectors. I dunno if aftermarket will do it too but I dont mind either way.

That should be a good one, doubt that is the noise maker.
