5.8 swap
Ok. im going to build a 351 for my truck. i currently have an inline 6 in it. its a 1990 f150. What all am i looking at to replace? i also was wodering if i could use my 351 windsor block out of a 79 ford and put the intake/fuel injection off a 93 or newer?
You may need to do some checking on the deck height of the 79 compared to the 93. Some year they changed. But it may have been a lot earlier. The bell housing on the transmission should be the same between the 6 and the 8. Motor mounts for sure. If fuel injected windsor going in, you will of course need the computer and harness. A radiator for the V-8 will probably be necessary. That should be about it. It should be a pretty straight forward swap.
are you sure its a windsor and not the modified or cleveland? definately motor mounts and computer (you may need to get a custom computer). i believe the exhaust manifolds are different. tranny depends on which one you have. a stock aod wont hold the 351 power very well. if 4 or 5 spd then you should be alright. whole exhaust system or go with true duals. maybe need to change the fuel pressure regulator. theres alot involved from inline 6 to v8 especially older v8. how many horses and ft lbs are you looking at getting out of it?
nothin to extreme yet. prolly start out around 375 horse to 400. i mite go ahead and keep it carburated. im not sure tho. i kno it would be alot easier if i went carburated but i want to do it right. but the only 351 windsor i can find around here is out of a 79 ford. what do you guys think i should do? i want to be pretty damn quick in this thing. prolly gonna blue print and balance the motor while im at it too.
if its a 79 ford truck then it should be a 351 modified (joke to even try to build). if its a car then it could be a cleveland or windsor(both excellent buildable engines). can you tell which one it is?
