Question Oil Pan Gasket

I did a search about replacing the oil pan gasket in a 97 F150 4.6 4x4 but I had no luck.
I know it might be a time consuming Job, getting the pan off is a hassle.
I was more interested inn the torque specs and torque sequence for the bolts.
Does anybody know what the sequence and specs are ?
Any tips or advise doing the job ?
Thanks

Sounds like it is time for you to purchase a HAYNES or CHILTONS manual.

All the specs *AND* all of the procedures.

Good Luck!

OIl Pan Gasket

That's exactly what I was trying to avoid, buying a entire manual just to know the torque os some bolts.

general rule of thumb when it comes to torque sequence - work from the middle out on both sides at once. again, this is a general rule of thumb, may not be accurate for everything.

mig- i would highly suggest buying the manual, you may run into something to use it for later on.

for time being.

install
1. clean mating surfaces.
2. install new gasket and 16 bolts loosely
3. tighten bolts in 3 steps!
tighten in sequence (ill try to explain this best i can later in post)
step 1, 18 in lbs
step 2, 15 ft lbs
step 3, an additional 60 degrees (one hex head flat)
4. install plug. and so forth.

from the front of the vehicle, looking up with your feet toward the rear, you want to start at the furthest forward bolt on your left (passenger side of vehicle) that does NOT thread into the front timing cover (or another way to look at it, the 2nd bolt from the front).
work your way down your left side to the back of block (passenger side) stopping at the first bolt not connecting to the timing cover on your right (again drivers side, 2nd bolt from front)
that will be 12 bolts

bolt 13 is very front on your left (passenger side), 14 is very front on your right, 15 is next to 13 and you get the point.
hope this helps, if not, get the book.
