With no codes I would start with changing the fuel filter.

How many miles? All the time or under load/acceleration? As torkum posted, without codes (your CEL codes) it's going to be difficult to help you. And if you don't have CEL codes, you will soon. Without more information, 'sluggish' doesn't do much good. Did it happen all of a sudden, or over time and you're just now noticing the difference? How do you drive? Heavy on the pedal, or do you like to coast a little? Any problems at startup or idle? Lots of great minds here (and I'm not one of them)...with a little more info, you'd be surprised what they can accomplish. torkum, SHO89, jbrew, and that guy from Canada (never can remember his screenname...my apologies in advance). Without a history of what you have and/or haven't tried, it sounds like you're in need of a good tuneup. Motorcraft plugs and wires first, before yoy try anything else (e.g.---fuel filter, air filter, PCV, EGR, AIC---all of these need to be checked out and replaced--particularly fuel and air filters--if previously neglected), but my guess is your problem lies within your firing system. DO NOT dump a bunch of fuel injector cleaner into your tank and think this will fix the problem--it won't. You'll end up with spark plugs that look like they were excavated from the Mt. Vesuvius archaeological dig (ashen). Post more info and tell about the progress--The Vinman.

he has a cop system if he has a v8. so its plugs and boots. if you have done a tuneup recently then dont think you can eliminate that unless you used the motorcraft plugs. the modular engines hate most after market plugs. they will wear out and burn up in a heart beat.

Come on in here JMC and whoop some everloving Canadien Mist down us. Can't speak for jbrew, but I'm an old Kentucky boy, we can take as good as we give. Hell, all three of my wives are barefoot and pregnant and I tried to talk my neighbor into goin' to the revival wi' me, but he got a bit skittish when he heard about all that rattlesnake passin' around thing----and I hadn't even brought up the strychnine drinking yet. O ye of little faith! Poor lost souls.

Green Machine. Here's what you do. It's what I did and and few others have, here and on other forums.

Problem : The truck feels like a slug. Feels heavy w/no power.

It's either a combination of things (most likely) - or just something lacking/ not up to par.

What seems to work and makes the difference is -

1. MC plugs

2. Full COP swap. (purchase the V10 kit if you can find one)

3. Injector update.

4. fuel filter

5. MAF Cleaning.

6. Throttle body and plenum cleaning.

You do all that and your truck will feel quick and responsive, like a different truck completely.

Make sure you do EVERY procedure correctly. Investigate, it will pay off.

BTW - Ebay is your best friend here. De- Tune before you start.

If you're tight on money and/or time, perform steps 1. 2. and 6. first. Do that and I can virtually guarantee you will notice the difference. Don't ignore the other steps, just get to them when you get time. Out of curiousity, I'm still interested in the mileage.

Right you are...I stand corrected. I am a firm believer that the COP system and plastic valve covers are inventions of Lucifer himself.

There's a few sellers on ebay that get Romeo crate motors from ford and part out the Top ends. The crate motors in 2005 that were going around when I did mine - The 2000 - 2001 Crown Vic 4.6L. I purchased all the parts above from one seller - New for $220. But I bought the harness and other parts that I sold or gave away here. So I made out on that deal.

I still see crate motors being parted out every now and again. Whats great about that is, the parts are new , but have been bolted to the motor . They can't sell them as new once bolted.

The Motorcraft COP's were $60 for the set.

The injectors were $65 for the set.

Here's a pic shortly after the install back then. -

You know what. Before you try anything, clean the MAF. You might just luck out since you have an 03 model.
