That's purdy damn close to crazy running those plugs man. Seriously, you need to get those out of there. What's so bad about Bosch plugs, by the time you have primary failure - The Bosch's have melted. When these plugs melt the ground electrode breaks off and takes a trip thru the motor - Major damage occurs of course. Not only that, the center electrode melts and drips on the piston in liquid form - gets in between the piston and cylinder wall then cools enough to damage the cylinder.

Autolites - The standard double platinum heat up as well, they don't melt , just turn funny colors and foul..

Autolites that got hot, you can see the discoloration if you look close - These Autolites failed after 40 miles. - I've learned Autoilite has another line of plugs that might work - I'm not sure. The double plates were top of the Autolite chain back when I purchased these - 4 or 5 years ago.

Here's a set of Bosch - These failed as well and compromised the motor -

Paranoid now? I would put a plug change at the top of the list before traveling and distance if it were me.

Neither Autolite or Bosch plugs meet Ford specifications not to long ago. Autolite may have adjusted by now. If so, the part number above on the box/plug will be different.

Motorcraft, NGK, Denso are the ONLY plugs that I heard of that work well in tese trucks.

MotorCraft 'Finewires" is choice

Now - one would think Bosch would be the best plug for a BMW, right?

WRONG! I had a 81 320i a few years back. I put a set of Bosch Platinums in it, correct heat range. It took about 2 months before they fouled out. I put the standard NGK's back in that I pulled and it ran fine for another year.

I dunno what their problem is - they were the original platinum plugs and I ran them in all kinds of engines many years back. I sure wouldn't put them in anything any more.
