knock knock knock

i am getting a knocking, it sounds like it is in the engine. it knocks for a couple of seconds and then goes away for a little while and the starts knocking again. i tried changing the oil, but the same sound. the oil was clean and it is not burning or leaking. after driving it for a while the knocking goes away. but when i start it again the knocking comes back. any suggestions

you should try to hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge to see if its an oil pressure problem. you cant always go by the factory gauges because they just show whether there is or isnt enough pressure. can you tell whether its the top end or bottom end of the engine? it could also be a cat. convertor that broke apart inside. beat on the convertor while the truck is still shut off to verify whether its good or bad.

i dont think it is the cat because the knock is coming from the drivers side and the exhaust is on the pasenger side. could i check the oil pressure myself or should i take it to a shop.

Your headers are going to come out each side of the engine, and there's going to be a cat on both the driver's side and the passenger side, before the driver's side exhaust runs over to that side and Y's up to run single out to the muffler and out behind your rear tire.

Lot of words to say, you still have a cat on the driver's side. lol

I assume you have a 95 Flareside - but we don't know what engine and trans you have. What exact oil do you use, and what oil filter do you use? How many miles on the truck?

the engine size is 5.0 not really sure about the tranny. i put a high milege fram oil filter and change out the air filter to k & n and used syntec 5w30 the truck has 178000 miles. it was knocking before i change the oil. the idel is good there is no shaking and no loss of power.

his truck should have both cats on the same pipe if its similar to mine and not obd2. you can check the correct oil pressure with a mechanical gauge or if you have an oil pressure gauge that screws in place of your oil filter.

My bad, was thinking for some reason my buddy's 95 was that setup, but he doesn't have a 5.0L either.
