No starting once in awhile
No starting once in awhile
I drive four miles to go fishing Saturday. When I'm done it would crank but no start. Swapped the fuel pump relay with the one I had from the tow package. Checked the inertia switch. Never started. So I had it towed to a shop. Today they go out and it starts right up. They hooked a pressure gauge up to the fuel rail and said it's fine. They took it for a ride and started through out the day. Started everytime. Also did a scan an no codes. I go and pick it up after work and come home. decide to go for a ride and it starts. Come home shut it off. Try again and it doesn't start. I go and get a fuel pressure gauge. I am gettin nothing. You think if it was going bad it would show lower pressure when it was running. I popped the line off the regulator and it's dry. The fuel pump was replaced 40,000 miles ago.
Hopefully tomorrow it will start so I don't have to have it towed again. Before I got the pressure gauge I changed the cam shaft sensor. They told me sometimes that will cause it not to start.
Is there anything else I could check? I did a search on here and think I covered everything except testing the fuel regulator.

The fuel filter was replaced. I can't hear it run. It's sitting in my garage right now. Just deciding whether to try and replace it myself. I am somewhat mechanical. I think it cost me 800.00 last time the dealer changed it back in 04.
It's no a very technical job to change, but it takes some time. $ 800 for a fuel pump is criminal.
Another thing that comes to mind is usually associated with bigger injectors at some specific temps., but it might be worth a try. When it does not start, hold the gas pedal to the floor for just a second and then release.
