Champion Plugs
Champion Plugs
I've been gone for a while, so forgive me if my question has been dealt with recently, but I was wondering if there is any information on the performance of the plugs developed by Champion to supposedly combat the breaking-off problems encountered with the '04 and up 5.4s?
I was about to post the same exact question last night, but after some searching, I learned that there really wasn't too much info other than people were going to try them. So that's the route I took.
I ordered a set from RockAuto and using an online coupon for 5% off, the total was $98...about twice the price of the MotorCraft plugs. I am not looking to get anything out of this except stock-like performance but without the headache of breakage down the road (I have just under 30k on the clock). I am going to attempt the extraction next week (fingers crossed).
If anyone has installed the Champ plugs, I would like to hear your feedback as well.

Avoid the Champions at all costs.
I installed a set of these new Champions a few months ago. Within one day, two of the plugs failed due to broken ceramics (the white insulator was sliding up and down on the center electrode) making the truck undrivable.
I replaced the POS Champions with Brisk Racing plugs and the truck runs great now. I recommend the Brisk plugs, or the new replacement Motorcraft plugs (pzt-14f).
Make sure you use anti-sieze on the treads, dielectric gel in the plug boot, and verify the plug gap before you install the new plugs.
Good luck.

Return the Champs or give them a try. If they were the same price as the Motorcrafts, I would just give them a shot, but being twice the price, I am tempted to go back with the Motorcrafts (which is what the inner voice kept telling me as I was finalizing the order!).
Any other feedback out there?
