Manifolds. Mount RIGHT in the way!!!!!!!1

I have all the exhaust manifold bolts out, well least the ones that weren't already broken off, the last one, 2nd bank back bottom stud is RIGHT BEHIND the engine mount plate!!!! WTFH!!! I cant even get a socket inbetween there, and if I could, there is not even enough room to back it out all the to clear the mounting plate!!!

Do I honestly have to jack up the motor and remove the engine mounts to get this last bolt out????

I got the nut off that particular bolt, but then the edge of the manifold would not clear the mount. I jacked up the engine and unbolted the mount. pics in a fews. . .

the item to the left is the engine mount. You can see how close it is to the nut. but then notice, even if you do get the nut off, the lip of manifold wont clear it.

Two studs broken off prior to me gettin gin here, hence the ticking. the far upper left and exact opposite lower right, first bank. both broken clean off INSIDE the head

I have my work CUT out for me just nice. Next few days drilling and tapping into precious aluminum. great.

Cleaned up a little

I dont think I am putting studs and nuts back in, just going to use bolts and lock washers. case hardened junk.

You can use a ratchet wrench , well, that's what I used installing headers. To remove the old studs on my 98 - I used an Impact w/ 2 universals. Just a cheap little battery Impact was all it took. They look like hell on the outside, but they all spun right out. -

BTW - Mine were 12mm & 13mm. Studs were 5mm.

I was busting off three and the nuts took the studs with them out, thnak gob. The rest I had to get the vice grips out for, but I did not break off any.

What did you use for aftermarket replacements?

I had to use shorter header bolts - They came with the headers.

The studs came out w/impact -A 5mm socket fits the studs, but yea , most came out the same way yours did - Nut, stud in one shot. I had both sides off in about 20 minutes. I was surprised, thought it would be a b^tch.

Yea, I've been very lucky with this motor - 241,000 miles and it's never leaked a drop of oil - Doesn't burn any either, between changes - But the oils changed every 3000 miles, so it doesn't have much of a chance to burn any - Always ran Castrol Syn Blend.

Those are Pacesetter LT headers.

No , I cleaned them up just for pictures sake - The one and only time - Hell , I couldn't even see the manifold nuts before I cleaned it up.

Pacesetters were $239 or 249 for the everything.
