Engine light came on at 73.5k
My 2006 F150 XLT SC 5.4 has been running like a dream machine from the day I drove it off the lot. However, today when I started it up, I noticed one of the idiot lights stayed on. I pull out my owner's manual, and found out that this was the Engine idiot light. Reading more, it states I need service.
Now, I was getting ready to take a trip on the weekend. Now, that is up in the air. My racing partner is also a auto technicain, and has worked for Ford for about 7 years. He told me that lite meant that I need a tune up. I questioned his ability to pull and reinstall new plugs, fuel filter, air filter, and other things. He laughed and said he could do it easily, but it would be an all day job.
My F150 rides like a cadilac!!Sweet. I was wondering if it would be good move to let my auto techinian friend do the tune up, and would that take away the "engine light"???
The truck has 73.5k miles
Thanks in advance,

You need to get the code read. You can usually get that done at an autozone type place. It could mean many things most of them minor. Get the code read. Post the results on this thread and someone will help you.
yea if your check engine light is on NEVER assume you know why its on..at 73 thousand miles you shouldnt be ready for a tune up yet...and theres no way new plugs COPS air filter and fuel filter takes all day..i could do that my self in like 4 hours AND IM NOT A TECHNICIAN!!! but neways..your air filter should be changer quite often..fuel filter ohh every 30 thousand or 50 thousand miles..plugs..GO BACK WITH MOTORCRAFT!!! at bout 100 thousand is what their labeled for..id do at about 85-90 and COPS change those when you change the plugs..dont buy the motorcraft they wanted to charge me 512 bucks!!! i said no way posted a thread on here and alot of guys said global automotive is the way to go so thats what im gonna do
bottom line is dont ever ever ever just assume why the light is on..now a days any small thing can set it off...it could just be something stupid that takes no money and like 5 minutes to fix..i think its autozone that offers the free code reading..go there get that code tell us what its for and we shall help you out my friend
