Sudden engine rev
I like the last idea too!
Interesting the speedometer would peg too, though. I would have thought the tires would have to be spinning for that to happen also. But, if the PCM is controlling the speedometer (and it is), then a voltage spike from it would cause the speedometer to jump, right?
We're cool Larry. When I bought this truck about a year ago, I too had the problem of a "big foot" that simultaneously hit the gas and the brake pedal. Luckily, there was nothing in front of me the two times I did this. I actually think the brake pedal is mounted a little close to the gas pedal in my truck. But, I seem to have gotten used to it now.
The more time I spend in these forums, the more I learn about my truck.

Funny that you would mention that Temp1. I've been getting the recall letters for the cruise control for some time but am always told that the parts aren't available. Just today, i got another letter stating that the parts are now available and I am to schedule an appointment to get it serviced.
Nice call JMC. Please let me know of anything that you may find.

It isn't a voltage spike causing the Speedo to sweep. When you unplug the PCM, cut current, it resets and the HEC and automatically sweeps the gauges as part of the reset. If you have a 99+ f-150, and do not mind having the PCM relearn your driving style, with the key OFF disconnect the battery for a minute and then reconnect it. Then turn the KEY to run and watch the gauges sweep.

I wonder, kakings, did you notice any kind of momentary "stumble" just before the rpm jump?
- Jack
I didn't notice a momentary stumble, but i do recall that at the time, my accelerator was hard to depress once fully disengaged (needed throttle body cleaning). With that happening, I had developed a habit of tapping the accelerator to keep it from sticking while sitting at a traffic light. I'm now wondering if this "tapping" was something that triggered the PCM to react. Just grasping for straws here.
