Oil: Who uses what?

Hey guys - I've driven lease vehicles for the last few years and got sick of being unable to do heavy modifications. That said - The dealership was doing all of my maintenance dirt cheap so i let em do it.

I'm curious who's running what oil in their trucks and how has it faired for them so I can make a better decision on what I want to run

I've got a 2007 5.4L. and am a Michigan driver.

...Hope this doesnt stir the pot too much! oh well bombs away

Good grief! We have gone so long without one!

Still running Motorcraft 5-20. No reason to run anything else. 72,000 miles and moves ever so slightly on the stick. Change it at the dealer for $28 every 3800 to 4000 miles.

5-30 Mobil 1 Truck & SUV with a Motorcraft filter, all from Wal-Mart.

Change it around every 5000 miles for about the same price bluejay pays.

*Reminds self to change it soon*

What he said with a K&N filter. We'll see how it performs since this was the first oil change, and I might switch to something after that if I don't like it.

I use either Havoline or Pennzoil in 5w-20. I have the oil analyzed every change. I change every 7500, TBN is still 2.0 or better, and I have single digit wear metals. You'll be hard pressed to beat that regardless of what you pay for oil. The current truck/engine has 85,000 on the clock and the level doesn't fall over the OCI meaning I'm not adding any oil and the level is still in the middle of the normal zone. Most of my driving is hiway. I choose my oil by the add pack, not the basestock. I'm a fan of the synergistic formulations using some MoTDC and Boron. Because of dramatic changes in the basestocks, particularly the dino base oils, there isn't much sense in using a higher priced base. If you are considering extended oil changes, you definitely want a PAO. The only oil made for this is Amsoil and expect good results. Only issue is that it does not have the API certification and should you have an oil related or emissions failure under warranty- you're on your own.

You are not on your own. Amsoil will cover it if it is oil related.

I figured there would be a fairly spread field on this one.

I'm thinking that i'd like to change to a synthetic, that damn banner on the website for Royal Purple might have me brainwashed... anybody think this is a poor move?

if not... do i need a differrent filter??
