The straight 6 in my dads 71 Chevy Nova gets my vote he called it his gutless wonder. He bought it new in 71 and drove 10 years and the trany went out on it 500 miles shy of 100k. Thats when he got rid of it.

I bought a 76 Monza for my wife back when they were new. It came with the 140 Durabuilt engine making about 85HP with a 2 barrel carb and a 5 speed. It was metallic dark blue, luggage rack on the trunk, and wire wheels. What a dude back then! It was among the very few small cars that my 6'4" body will fit in. I dearly loved the car and all things considered, it would run pretty decent too. I had the engine replaced four times in 30,000 miles. The last time I was in the dealership they told me they would not work on the car again...ever. They had the car for 4 months waiting for the engine and they gave it back to me with four months of dirt on it and on the front end of a wrecker as the battery was dead, imagine that. I had the wife drive my F-100 and I drove her car to a Lincoln dealership and told a sales friend of mine- here's yer car, she's gonna pick hers out and we're outa here. They gave me a great deal on a Cougar she picked out and I've never had another GM anything since. The 140 Durajoke is head of the pack for the sorriest followed by the Quad4 and then the Toyota 3.0 V6 with it's never ending sludge and cam failures.

Our 89 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme international series (FWD) had a 2.8 v6 that was a great engine. Never had a problem with it and it had over 200,000 miles. Now the manual 5 speed transmission was a total POS!!!

It was just like this one, I wish I'd never gotten rid of it.

This is going way back, to my first car, a 65 Corvair Monza. My dad thought it would be a great first car. Funny, right? By far the worst engine I have ever had. Air cooled 6 cylinder that puked oil everywhere no matter how many times I changed gaskets and seals. You couldn't find parts for it anywhere. It ran hot in the summer and ice cold all winter long. I had to scrape the inside windows just to drive it in the winter if it started at all. I can't even count how many times that thing left me stranded somewhere. It finally roasted on the highway when the fan belt blew off and took out the wire for the temp sensor. I was almost relieved that I would not have to dump any more money in that pit ever again.

Oh God, how could I forget those. Isuzu used that engine in Rodeos, I forgot what they called it, it was a little 2.2 liter POS. It wasn't a matter of "if" the timing belt was gonna give up, it was when. If you're pushing timing belt services any further than every 60K miles, you're playing with fire with that POS.

The 3.0 liter 2V or 4V was pretty good in regards to head gaskets, at least from what I've seen. '97-'98ish Taurus and Sable 3.0L 2V had horrible cooling systems, even with the bypass kit thingy installed they'd still sludge up and ruin everything in the system. Until they went to the one piece hard plastic oil pan gasket, they'd go through a lot of them too. The 4V was/is a pretty decent engine.
