Wink 2001 Ford F150 Triton V8 XLT service engine soon light

Hello All. I am new to this site and also not very experienced with auto repair. As the title says, I have a 2001 Ford F150 which has about 102, 500 miles on it. The service engine soon light is steadily on. The light has been on for some time, the truck was not in my posession for a few months, and it came on sometime within those few months. So, I'm going to guess the light has been on for at least 3 months. The truck is running just great and I have not had any problems with it. It accelerates normally, idles normally, drives awesome. I took the truck to both autozone and pepboys to get the code read and neither one could pull up a code. I know the next step should be to take the truck to an actual technician at a dealership, but I'm trying to avoid that if I can. Why would the code not be coming up with a normal generic scan tool (2 different types were used)? I've reset the computer by disconnecting the battery and after driving about 20mi's or so, the light has come back on. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly, greatly appreciated! I'm assuming i am probably going to have to take it to a dealership though. Thanks!! :o

You can try cleaning the port, but it's polly the fuse. Check all fuses/ fuse locations are in that little book inside the glove box.

Thanks! I found that the fuse for the data link was blown. All I have to do is replace that and I should be able to get the code read to give me an idea of where the problem is. If only those folks at autozone and pepboys could have told me that!!!

No Problem, When you do retrieve the code, copy down the numbers on the scanner and report them back here for the fix. Allot of times they will give you the wrong info.
