My opinion... use the search button and read the countless posts every time someone asks this same question.

Amsoil

Long story short, my friend had a 1985 toyota corolla, the water pump exploded on the way to the airport to drop off another friend, middle of summer in orlando FL, the radiator emptied, the engine got hot, he kept driving thinking the engine would eventually seize but he didnt care, he made it back from the airport , he Drove 35 miles with no water in the radiator. The only thing we could figure was that AMSOIL prevented the engine from seizing. He called a mechanic when he got back and they said, "dont drive the car without any fluid in the radiator, you need to get the car towed to the shop" he told them he would drive it to the shop, afterall he had already driven 35 miles at highway speed with no fluid. He got the waterpump replaced and drove the car for another 3-4 years after that, then sold it.

I would never drive my truck without fluid for 35 miles at highway speed- AMSOIL or not, but since I was at his house when he left for the airport and when he got back, I know the story to be true. Insane but true.

Ive used AMSOIL in every car Ive owned for the past 15 years, never had a problem, it improves mileage and I only changed the oil every 8-10K miles.

I DO NOT use AMSOIL in my ford since it is still under warranty. Once the warrenty is up, its back to AMSOIL.

Amsoil is the best oil for extended intervals beyond 10K miles. If you are still doing 3K changes it is too expensive. Just use the Motorcraft 5W-20 blend. It is great oil that will get you to 5K changes without trouble in most cases. 3K changes with todays technology is just wasteful. Think about all the oil being wasted and then think about the price of a barrell and the rising gas prices......

I use Amsoil 0W-30 and change it once a year. This is usually about 12K miles. The oil is rated to 35K but that is with regular oil analysis and bypass filtration.
