My truck started missing today!! HELP!

Ok is a 98 5.4 f150 and it hasnt thrown any codes yet! I cranks and runs fine but is missing. Everything has been fine the only thing i can think of is we did let drive the truck until the gas light came on for the 1st time ever so im thinking some trash may have gotten into the fuel filter. About a month ago i replaced my fuel filter and i said i would change the fuel filter later. So do you think that could be why its missing? I was going to try that 1st and if that didnt work i will try the plugs next. Any thoughts or idea? Thanx

only at idle. wife is driving it to work now and said the check engine light came on and it flashes every now and then. I going to have to see was code it has thrown this afternoon when she gets off If its bad fuel filter im sure it will throw bank 1 and 2 lean. Im really hoping its not spark related. I was reading the horror stories last night about pulling the plugs in these things. Would i have to worry this truck is a 98 with 235,000 miles on it and has always ran like a dream.

your truck deff. isnt happy about somthing... sounds kind of like a miss. What happends when you put it in drive at idle? and whats it do in Overdrive at 40? if the truck like shudders and stuff at 40 in O/D. im gonna vote for a miss....235,000 holy crap!! when was the last time the plugs were changed?

Cranks up fine and idles fine goes in to gear fine. It just shutters the whole time your driving it. It is a miss no doubt about that. I got the truck from my step dad about 1.5 years ago it was his company truck and it was taken well care of. Im sure the plugs were replace about 10-15k miles ago and all the coils but 2 from what i can remember. ill have to ask.

The thing is this happened when we ran it until the gas light came on for the 1st time. I cranked it up and i noticed it not running as smooth and when i started driving it was fine. So i filled it uo $70+ then drove home and it started going and got worse the next day.

Does sound like a fuel filter - Start there it's probably the problem. Regulator would be my second guess.

If it still does this after replacing the fuel filter - Then you should pressure check @ the rail - Get your initial pressure reading and check the regulator right after w/pressure gauge still attached. I'll describe how after you get to this point.
