MPG question

It seams the hotter the day is, the worst MPG I'm getting. I don't know if this is normal or not. It seams to me that on hot summer days the air is less dense, meaning less oxygen. So in my mind, with less oxygen the PCM would dump less fuel into the combustion chamber in order to maintain the proper air/fuel ratio, according to the O2 sensor. Now, on cold winter days it should be just the opposite, but I get better MPG on cold winter days.

Since there is a little less power, you have to push the gas more?

Also, do you use your A/C when it's hot?

Thats true, but recently because of gas prices I've been driving like a little old lady, and not the one from Pasadena.

And of course I use the A/C, but the truck is more aerodynamic and fuel efficient with the windows up and the A/C on (according to MythBusters).

Summer blend reformulated gas.

Not true on the A/C issue - mine gets measurably worse mileage with the A/C on.

Lose that throttle body spacer.

To tell you the truth, I installed that throttle body spacer because it was free with my AirAid CAI, that's pretty much the only reason. It whistle like mad and ticks off my dog. But I never thought that It would have a negative effect on anything.

Remove the TB spacer - There bad news all around. You have to suck "outside" air - specially in the summer . Make sure your cold air set up is tight. It's harder for the motor to convert warm air to power.

Wouldn't hurt to pull it - it's not doing anything positive for you.

Ok. I'll be removing the TB spacer today, it could only make it better. I guess I'll throw it up on ebay and let it be someone else's problem

I didnt notice an increase in mine until I started using the AC. But here in NC when its 100 deg and you have a black truck, the windows being down just doesnt cut it.

Actually, on MythBusters, they ran two trucks with the same amount of gas on an oval track. The one with the windows up & A/C on ran out of gas first. That means the laws of physics didn't pan out when the truck with the windows down & A/C off got better mileage.

Really ! Yea she prolly sold it for more and didn't tell me - I got scammed twice!

I wonder if you can install an inter-cooler without a blower ? If that would help economy? Ahh, it's probably a volocity thing.

I removed the TB spacer. I drove it around the block afterwords, It felt exactly how it did when it was installed. I noticed no change in power or throtal responce. My Edge Evo did show that it was getting an increase in MPG. It went up by .2 on the AMPG and I only put around 2 miles on it. I'll have to see what the Evo comes up with on the way to work on Monday. I do have to say that I DON'T MISS THE WHISTLE! I can't belive how much quieter my truck is now that I took the TB spacer off!
