If you have a 97-02 5.4 engine, the sparkplugs are standard plugs, however Ford used only a few threads in the head and many(and many is being nice) folks are having problems with the plugs blowing out of the head spontaneously. Do a search on it and you'll find unlimited info on it. Ford fixed it in 03 by putting more threads for the plugs only to change the design again in 04 to my plug sticking problem. Seems Ford fixed it for 08 but will probably make another dumb change soon. If I were you I would be very careful with the threads during the plug removal and torque to specs. Many of the problems with your engine might be due to over and under tightened.

I don't know right of the top of my head. If your Ford manual doesn't have the torque specs and you plan to do it yourself, I'd just call a dealership you trust(if there are any you know of), ask to speak to a tech and see what he recommends. The parts guy there who can give you the sparkplug number will probably have that info in his computer as well. The big things I would be concerned to know is of course the torque specs for replacing, whether to use an antisieze compound to put on the plug threads prior to replacing(with this situation, I don't know if it's a good idea really), and I would use a penetrant to assist with getting the old plugs out(less stress on the threads). One thing for sure, I would rather have to deal with changing your plugs compared with having to change mine in the 3v 5.4.
