Where is the fuel filter on my 07 5.4 and how hard is it to change?

I'm not sure on the 04-08 F-150, however, on the 97-03 F-150 it is located cradled in the left side frame rail, past the gas tank. why are you looking to change it out? have you already past 30k miles? if not, you're not going to increase mileage by changing out a clean filter.

ok. in any case, i imagine it would be cradled in the left frame rail somewhere past the gas tank. not 100% sure though. the biggest thing to worry about is to not damage the fuel line retaining clips. just make sure you get the fuel filter tool from a auto parts store to properly disconnect the lines from the filter. all it is really is a filter that bridges two gas lines. the lines are held onto the filter w/ those retaining clips. get the disconnect tool, pull out the retaining clips, disconnect the two lines, and off comes the filter. make sure to look away, or you'll get fuel spilled on you as you pull the filter out. installation is the reverse of removal w/ the new filter.

It's a simple change if you do it right. My 05' 5.4 fuel filter is behind the frame rail under the drivers door side. Just slight under the driver's door and look behind the frame rail and there she is. Go to Advance or Autozone, etc. and by a filter changing tool. It should have two ends that rotate in the middle and forms two cup looking ends, one smaller and the other slightly larger. Buy a Motorcraft fuel filter at Advance(I know they carry that brand fuel filter). My fuel lines have a blue clip on the side b/n the gas tank and the filter and a regular connection from the filter to the engine. Using a small pair of needle-nose pliers, etc., easily pull it out until it stops, don't force it. Once you have a grip on it, it should pull straight down. Don't take the fuel filter out of the cage until you have the lines disconnected. You'll see the tool once connected over the fuel line inserts into the head of the fuel line and depresses the connection holding it on. I've found it works best to push the line toward and then also push the tool toward the line. You will feel the tool go into the line then as you pull the line back, it should release from the filter. It may take a few attempts before you figure it out and be ready for some gas to run back. It's not much but will make you smell all nice after it over. Once diconnected, push out the old filter(which can be a bi-ch to get out). Put the new one in by snapping it down into the cage b/c if you're cage is like mine, it has a lip that wont let it just slide into which seems the easiest way to do. Line it up so the neck of the filter will rest in front of this lip otherwise you'll be prying it out again to redo it. Reconnect the lines and job over, 5 minutes total. Sorry so long winded, bored tonight.
