Mustang motor into F-150.
Mustang motor into F-150.
Guys I have a Procharged 99 NON-PI 4.6 F-150. I have a line on a built motor from a 2000 4.6 (PI) mustang. I am thinking of doing a swap.
The questions I have are:
Will my procharger mounting plate mount to this motor properly? I don't know if there are any differences in the block/timing cover between the truck and the mustang.
Will my NON-PI 99 4.6 plastic truck intake bolt onto the heads of this 2000 PI Headed mustang motor???
This motor came out of a manual car. It is a windsor motor and the motor im pulling out is a romeo motor. So all I would need to mate this motor to my transmission is a 8 bolt windsor flexplate... correct?
Are there any differences in the placement of the exhaust ports on the PI heads that would cause problems with my stock exhaust manifold? Should I just buy some long tubes?
Anything else you guys can think of feel free to post... Thanks in advance.

Unsure of intake, 99 Plastic???
All pre-PI inakes for 97-98 were aluminum I thought?, check yours if its round port (pre-PI), or square port (PI).But getting a PI model intake is easy enough for a car. Since you will be running a blower, You dont need the long runner truck intake. If you do need an intake and using the blower then get a car blower.Block and timing cover should give you no problems. I'm surprised your orig F150 motor was a romeo. I have heard of Expeditions having romeo motors but I thought most all F150's were windsor. I have a windsor 8 stud crank flexplate if you need it. You should just keep your exhaust. No gain out of an aftermarket, spend the money elsewhere.
Thanks for the replies so far.
Yeah my truck has a "W" for the VIN so it's definately a Romeo 4.6.
An intake should be easy to get. It seems like the junkers around here have tons of them. I've been told I need the aluminum crossover so that it won't break on me.
Do I need to put the timing cover from my truck motor on the mustang motor or just use the mustang cover?
Do I need to get both the upper and lower PI intakes in order to fit or do I just need one?
Do I need to swap oil pans?
Thanks guys!

I thought that by time of the PI motor that Ford made all the intakes with the aluminum cross over. The problem is still there, dont be fooled!! The cross over might be aluminum, but the plastic from the main intake still has an aproximite 1/4" thick running under the aluminum crossover. When you get one make sure that you look under, in the passage. You want to be sure that the plastic is not cracked anywhere around the port. An easier way is to remove the six? screws holding the aluminum to the plastic so you can see the top O-ring mating surface. Remove the O-rings and inspect. You will just about always be cleaning corrosion between the two.
As long as both engines are pre 2002 you can swap no problem. Ford origionally made the crank gear two peices, one for each chain. In 02 it was changed to a one peice design, and the sensor ring was also changed. I dont believe you can swap between these years unless you change these timing components to match the covers.
After you confirm, then check the acc. provisions for a match.
I mention the year difference because you stated "built" motor. The motor could have been changed, or built with newer components.
The intakes are one peice upper and lower, unlike most trucks which have two seperate halves. Newer model trucks became one peice design in 2001?
The car oil pan is shallower than a truck but the sump is longer to make up the volume. If it clears your transfer case, use what ever is on there. If not change it, just be sure to swap pick up tubes or you will be in the market for another motor very soon.

Okay so the intake is one piece....
For the pickup tube, you're saying that I need to put the truck pickup tube on the new motor? Why is that?
Thanks man!

I think what hes saying is,,truck pickup tube with the truck oil pan ( OR ) can pickup tube with the car oil pan.
One or the other,,the pickup tubes are different. Don't mix match them.
