code58 ? You may have one of those Chilton's Knock off Manuals ehh..
Brew- now you know why I no longer use aftermarket manuals. Actually I bought this manual when I bought the '99 and never had to use it- it's out of the wrapper but new. I thought I remembered using 6 qts. but I haven't had that truck for 6 yrs.and had a 4.6 after that so thought maybe I confused the 2. Have no fear, it was never overfilled, I always went by the glovebox manual for capacities and as a matter of fact have always put in what Henry called for and called that full. It bothered me when in more recent time time a lot of the cars and trucks , "full" put it in the middle of the stick but that is where I left it and non of my vehicles used oil so that is pretty close to where it was at 3k mi. I am a stickler for details. I went back and checked the manual (Chilton) and it is '97-'00 manual (no, it's not a knock-off), and #26666. (I think it's all those 6's that's the problem-) I wish I knew how to scan this thing in and post- it's on page 1-57. It has a complete breakdown of all the models for all those years- '97-'00 and WHEREVER it shows a 5.4 it shows 7 qts. w/filter! I have factory DVD's for everything currently and my '04 F-150 5.4 does take 7qts. I threatened to have a burning party years ago when I had purchased aftermarket manuals for the kids cars- it hasn't improved! :o
